While the majority of residents rate the beauty of the surroundings as their favorite thing about Redding, other aspects they enjoy include proximity to recreation opportunities, small-city atmosphere, weather and climate, friendliness of people, convenience and family atmosphere.

Redding Real Estate

While Redding residents rank housing costs as one of the city’s most serious problems, Redding real estate agents can easily show you why. There are a total of 19,965 housing units with an average home price of $159,089. Currently, three-bedroom and two-bathroom homes are available for sale from $140,000 to $229,000. The median rental price is $468, while an average month rental, including utilities, for a new two-bedroom apartment is $750. Average monthly utility cost, including sewer, water, garbage, electricity and gas is around $140. The average retail sales per capita are approximately $14,500. The majority of homes (59 percent) are owner-occupied; 36 percent are rental units and 6 percent are vacation units.

Recreation

Redding real estate agents will always point out that there’s plenty to do in and around the area. Lake Shasta has over 365 miles of shoreline, is up to 517 feet deep and has an average temperature of 77 degrees – it’s the perfect place to cool off and relax on a hot day. The Shasta Dam is 602 feet tall, 883 feet thick at the bottom and has a spillway three times taller than Niagara Falls. It’s actually the tallest concrete structure in the United States.

The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay is also one of the most unique structures in the country. It is a beautiful pedestrian bridge across the Sacramento River and connects the nationally designated trail system in Redding with the Turtle Bay Exploration Park and McConnell Arboretum. The bridge is aqua green in color, has an opaque glass deck, strips of granite and smooth, white imported Spanish tile. The most fascinating part of the bridge is that it acts as a sundial, telling time on a tile-covered garden border on the north side of the bridge. The Turtle Bay Exploration Park is not only green and luscious, but also holds a 34,000-square-foot art and history museum, as well as railroad exhibits and a large exploration park. Redding also has an Olympic-sized community pool. And the Redding Big League Dreams Sports Complex just opened on July of 2004 and is a family-friendly facility with a large range of athletic options.

Some Last Words

Redding has great weather, beautiful surroundings and an ideal location. With all the benefits you can get from living in Redding, you should definitely consider it for your next home!
